Iter
April 14, 2012
The exhibition theme centers on the notion of sojourn/journey in reference to physical location or dislocation, journey over time, or one characterized by an interior or spiritual voyage from a point of desolation to euphoria. It is a common human experience that cuts across age, race, gender, and culture; one that makes demands on humans—woman or man—by way of physical and mental effort, and emotional strain. For journey entails change: an actualization of potencies, a movement from one point to another, not unusually accompanied by transformation or conversion. The experience of journey is one that merits close scrutiny and reflection, as it bears on the person’s faculties, pulling it—in varying degrees of strength and force—towards directions and destinations with its distinct outcomes.
